National President, Denis Paulin has been invited to fire Maryborough's historic time cannon at 1pm at the Heritage Markets during AGM Event week.  Normally a task performed by the city's ambassadors, the Town Crier and Mary Heritage, both have gracefully offered to step aside to allow President Denis this rare honour.

The gun, cast by local firm Olds Engineering, is a replica of the cannon that was fired daily at 1pm in the days before Maryborough had a town clock.  It is generally acknowledged that the daily firing of the cannon may have been the inspiration for the character 'Admiral Boom' in the childrens' book, Mary Poppins.  The book's author, P.L.Travers was born in Maryborough and spent the early part of her childhood in the city.
